Same problem here. It worked fine in 10.10. I am using nvidia drivers
-geforce 9600- (tried all options from system-preferences-additional
drivers and also the binary driver from nvidia)

Same problem here, 2 different computers after upgrading to ubuntu 11.04
vlc freezes when playing mp3 files. I haven't tried video files.
