Hi,
As I said, it happened when I tried to upgrade the Ubuntu version to 11.04.
After failing to upgrade smoothly, I reformatted the hard drive and installed
from scratch.

I don't think this is a couchdb problem - after all, several packages
failed to install independently. All of them seem to have problems
accessing some files on /etc, though. Can you confirm that it's mounted
properly, accessible, ...? E.g., can you open/read the file
