I'm closing this bug report by marking it "Invalid" as the issue was
resolved by a configuration change. If anyone still has an issue with
the current version of Thunderbird then new a bug report should be
created both here and with Mozilla.

I have the same problem with rendering of images in my Firefox browser. It
happened after updating on new Ubuntu 11.04. It very annoys for me.
I attached some print screens of incorrect displaying images. If these images
are saved, and open they in other image viewer, so they display correctly.
