Seems power save mode was just fixed for PCI then in 2.6.39 so far. I
looked at the commits[1] and found this one[2]:

That does seem related, but I can't test it right now because for some
reason the 64bit live CD refuses to load on my system, and there isn't a
32bit 3.0v on the ppa. Plus this will require full install of oneiric on my
working system which complicate things.

The staging driver rt2870sta has reached the end of its live and will
not be there anymore in oneiric. Actually both remaining Ralink staging
drivers have been deleted in kernel 3.0 (which is likely the oneiric
release kernel).
