Most logs are archived (open /var/log in Nautilus and you should see lot
of compressed tar archives). On reboot the logs from previous sessions
should be in *.0.log.old or similar, a higher number means older logs.

Sorry to reopen this bug but the problem is in fact still there, just less
often.
It is very frustrating to have to reboot my computer because it just freezes on
a black screen.
