Public bug reported: I did a fresh install of Kubuntu 11.04 (alternate) on my Dell Inspiron 1525. I use whole-disk encryption. On boot-up, I get "Fehler: no video mode activated" before the encryption password dialog, but the system boots properly. Sometimes, however, Kubuntu freezes shortly after log- in, and I have to force a shutdown (no reactions to key strokes). When this happens, the freeze occurs earlier and earlier each time, until it happens right when entering the encryption password. After forcing a reboot again, I see the GRUB menu instead of the aforementioned error message. Booting from there sometimes does the trick for a few days, reverting back to the error message on boot-up, but works fine for a couple of days. Then the entire process starts over. I performed an MD5 check on the install CD and a memtest from GRUB, everything seems to be in order.
The only other thing that I noticed is that a US keymap is used during booting and log-in, although I explicitely set it to German during install. The GRUB menu has entries like "Eintr?ge" instead of "Einträge", so perhaps this has something to do with a wrong/conflicting keymap? ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/805900 Title: Kubuntu hangs, probably wrong keymap?
