I have found out that the Unity plugin is deactived in the compiz
settings. Why is this the case?

In order for Unity to function properly, the /etc/X11/Xsession.d
/65compiz_profile-on-session is being sourced by Xsession.
However, it checks the $GDMSESSION variable, which is not set in LDM.
