Tim, was the original bug _after_ configuring the driver to use the
external monitor (with amdcccle), or do you get the error when first
plugging in the vga?
Asking because the driver does not support output hotplug, so you need
to configure the driver first, and now other people say that

@Timo Aaltonen (tjaalton) if by radeon you mean the default opensource
drivers, yes it does work.
But there are other problems with these drivers (artifacts + poor performance
after suspend http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1865517)

amdcccle crashes everytime I hit apply!
This is ridiculus! I upgraded to 11.10 and lost my dual monitor setup.
Also tried xorg.conf settings but it crashes etc...
