Isn't it a problem due to the lost internet connection?
personally, I have problems when the internet connection is lost (suspend,
server error, (long taking) wifi reconnection, etc). T solve this problem:
* click File - Work offline
* click File - Work online
and the connection to the IMAP

Unable to read mail after resume due to akonadi hang
akonadi seems to kill kmail in other situations too. I have one
installation 4.7.1 where kmail hangs while writing emails or sending
them or 'touching' the adress field.
If the user(1) logs out and uses ssh -Y user1@localhost kmail from
another user2 session it seems that these hangups don't
