Patch works for me too.
Since you beat me on reporting it and fixing it first I'll give a slightly
cleaner solution instead:
FSTYPE=$(echo $DEVINFO | sed 's/.*\TYPE=\([^]*\).*/\1/g;
s/[[:blank:]]*//g;')
Using \ instead of a space will work even if TYPE= is at the beginning
Found a debian bug report regarding the same issue:
