Still present with 3.4.1-0ubuntu1
However I followed a tip from the bug report linked in #10
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-
shell/+bug/964796/comments/4)
Switching OFF Have file manager handle desktop fixes the issue.
So seems to be related to this
OK thanks Jeremy. I'll keep track of that bug and see if the mutter
update fixes this issue too.

Attached a couple screenshots.
I re-created the bug by doing a reboot with additional monitor connected.
