The best workaround I've found is to disable transitions in the kde
slideshow screensaver
As explained at https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=182104#c11
Add the following line:
EffectsEnabled=false
to the end of the file:
~/.kde/share/config/kslideshow.kssrc
or, in commands:
cat
Looked at this issue some more.
/usr/bin/kslideshow.kss has many transition-effects between photos.
Which transitions are being used is not a configurable option so you get all of
them.
Most of the transitions are lightweight and finish in a second or two.
Some of the transitions are complex
I'm seeing this issue since upgrading to Oneiric (Oct 2011).
This is Oneiric 11.10 with KDE with kscreensaver using Nvidia (non free)
driver.
The transition between photos is extremely slow and the computer becomes
non-responsive while the transition is going on.
I have set time for each photo
