resolution to 1024x768 (with the monitor above not to the left or
right).

I've confirmed on the 1215p that the external display mode doesn't
work properly. Also note that if you change the resolution to 800x600
(for both displays) - that will work but nothing greater than 800x600. I
tested each individual mode and each time I'm prompted with a dialog box
that

Also one step further, I tested in 2D mode per the dialog box's
suggestion and each external mode worked in 2D only.
