Title:
[i855] GPU lockup after 5 minutes playing video using VLC,
Hi Jani,
Too bad to hear about the other issues you've run into.
In Ubuntu we do not officially support the old i8xx chipsets (we dropped
support a few releases back). With this particular bug I had hoped it
would be something simple we could slip in, but evidently no such luck.
Upstream has
Bryce; no problem (and thanks for your working on this), for me the
fbdev workaround is good enough to work and live with on this setup. If
others affected by this feel differently, do take over with upstream.

@Bryce, this really is a messy one: I've so far dissected three
overlapping issues (Bug #926007, Bug #926012 and Bug #926028) which have
hindered my attempts to assist in debugging the one I originally laid
down in this report. :)

Jani, thanks for testing and providing the feedback. I've copied it up
to the upstream bug. Feel free to comment and post directly on that bug
report, as it'll give a quicker turnaround with upstream.

Thank you for taking the time to file a bug report on this issue.
However, given the number of bugs that the Kernel Team receives during
any development cycle it is impossible for us to review them all.
Therefore, we occasionally resort to using automated bots to request
further testing. This is
@Jani, as per the upstream bug report, that new panic appears to be
something unrelated to Intel (probably unrelated to X at all). Please
file a new bug report about that with the kernel. `ubuntu-bug linux`
Since the original issue was identified as a kernel issue rather than X,
I'll bump this
Robert, I tested your kernel. Unfortunately there's little to report:
here it still panics when bringing up X with -intel. Should I perhaps
file a different bug about these?
I'll attach a picture of the output. Looks like the freezing with just
the mouse cursor occurs about 1/3 of boots, in 2/3

I've prepared a kernel here based on the upstream bug, can ya give it a
shot and report back with your results?
