Attached is one of the photos that behaves in this fashion. As will be
noted on launchpad, these photos now appear under no event. Perhaps
the tags portion of the files are corrupted. They came from different
sources, ie digital camera and various cell phones.

The upgrade seems to have worked, mostly. The photos appear in shotwell
now, under the proper year 2007 in a category called no event. Perhaps
the tags portion of the files is corrupted? I emailed an example photo
that behaves in this way.

You received this bug notification because you are a
added note: i only upgraded shotwell and gstreamer. per
http://askubuntu.com/questions/60846/how-do-i-upgrade-to-the-latest-
version-of-shotwell except that I entered the ppa's into the software
manager's Other Software tab, and had to do them separately to avoid
error.

Adrian,
the photo you attached has no EXIF, IPTC or XMP data, as revealed by the
exiv2 command:
$ exiv2 -pa Alicia%27s%20Motorcycle.jpg
$
Shotwell has no idea what its date is, so it lists it in No Event. This
is expected behavior.

Adrian,
you're running a fairly old version of Shotwell (0.7). The current
release is Shotwell 0.11. Could you upgrade to a newer version of
Ubuntu and/or Shotwell and see if the problem still occurs?
If you can't upgrade, could you attach the photos that are failing to
display here?
