Public bug reported: Whenever focus enters or leaves my desktop (ie enter: click on desktop to focus on it, leave: click on different window to leave the desktop), the machine locks up for about 10-15 seconds, and Xorg process jumps to 100% during the lockup. After this I can interact with the desktop, except for right click still locks about for about 5 seconds each time. (X does not crash, it continues working after the crash) I use gnome3 and nautilus, fully updated ubuntu 11.10 x64. This consistently starts occuring after using the computer for about 10 minutes.

I have also attached the backtrace during the freeze from attaching gdb to X over ssh (its more interesting), and my xorg.conf (generated by nvidia-settings) My temporary workaround is to stop nautilus from handling the desktop, but I would really like to have it on.
