I had the same problem and finally found out that it was a problem of different
locale settings in kde and basic settings.
While I had changed the number format in KDE to use decimal points, the locale
number format LC_NUMBER was still de_DE.UTF-8. Adding the line

Those logs have no error nor segmentation fault mention. You need to
stop nautilus first with gnome-session-remove nautilus and then run

Pitti, it seems that retraces do not give any useful result on crashes
of non-C programs. In this case the original trace has even more
information than the retrace.

the gdm package in feisty version 2.18.0-0ubuntu2 fails to install its

/var/lib/dpkg/alternatives/gdm-config-derivative
as a result after installing edubuntu and xubuntu on the same machine
the original gdm profile cannot be easily
rpm are not supported on ubuntu. If you want to install this package
anyway, you should give a try at alien and try to convert the .rpm in
.deb
