Was there a result or response here? I'm not sure if the udevadm
settle is actually a fix or just masking the problem. And, I saw in
some other code that the udevadm settle command was put in a loop
structure after a call to cryptsetup. It didn't seem right there, but I
don't understand udev

I installed the patch and rebooted. I removed my working around of
running gnome-panel and gnome-wm on boot and sadly, in netbook mode, no
panels. This patch might fix in classic mode, however my netbook mode
still seems to be broken.

By the way, when I ran sudo modprobe -r iwl3945 it disconnected the
Wifi as expected -- but then froze my computer, after which the caps
lock and some other symbol with a downward arrow continually flashed on
my keyboard. I had to turn off the computer with the power button and
start up again.

I've been trying various of the /proc/acpi/ibm/fan commands, but find
that none of them have any affect on the fan speed, except disable,
which reports it as being zero, but doesn't the laptop seem otherwise
unaffected. Disengaged mode also makes no difference.

When I uninstalled mouseemu I've noticed that F9 does something strange with
backlight. I have the F1-F12 keyswap activated, and after uninstalling mouseemu
F9 switches to lower backlight level and back.

I have the same issue in Jaunty with a HP nw8440 laptop. Wifi only works

* Install from desktop live cd (32-bit in my case)
* Update packages
* Insert DVD
* Choose to open with Totem
* Totem tells that GStreamer is missing a plugin (I think, I'm currently at

That is excellent news. It might be worth you also trying the latest
kernel for Karmic. This kernel has the Ubuntu delta applied but is
otherwise the same v2.6.30-rc8 kernel which you reported as good on your
system. That would boad well for Karmic at least.
