I checked it again, and it is only almost perfect.
From the 4 errors I made, 3 is fixed, but one was transformed into another :(.
Specifically, I wanted to introduce some line breaks in unity(-2d), but the
first try resulted in visible \n sequences in strings. Somehow I managed to
correct this
I confirm that the new version fixes this. lightdm now starts X at vt7,
as it should. Thanks!

I get exactly this problem but I don't get any other slow downs in
Unity. To me the problem appears to be in Dash. When I am typing a
search term, the displaying of the letters typed is 2-3 seconds

I was also getting a beep on shutdown even though pckspkr was already
blacklisted. I found a solution at
http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=49t=75825. The problem went
away by muting the Beep with alsamixer.
