I just tried to reproduce this but with the latest updates installed in
my Precise VM things look ok. The area below the list of files is not
white but grey, but I'd say this behavior is ok. (No nautilus specific
theming involved.)

@Sebastian: yes, #920691 might be the same issue. (Although it is
possible in Oneiric to actually create the first bookmark, it's just
unbelievably hard to do so.)
@Thibaut: I agree this bug is still present in Precise. In fact, I can't
even see a Bookmarks section in nautilus in Precise! So

for 12.04, as far as 11.10 well, too bad, ect.
If it's not forth coming in 12.04 there is a source edit hack that works
very well, after several days of testing on 12.04 I've only seen
flashing maybe 3 times total. (this

Input stops responding
Sorry, I should have been more specific about how the thinkpad mouse
works.
The thinkpad has a normal laptop fingerpad with two buttons. It also has
a little joystick like knob on the keyboard between the 'g' 'h' and 'b'
keys. It also has ANOTHER set of buttons, but this time 3. The way the
