The point is, that with breezy everything was fine. The problem started with

Known problem with the TP600E. The soundcard is incorrectly identified as
CS462x.
There are plenty of web pages out there describing solutions to this. But

I'd guess that your BIOS is set to GMT+8 rather than GMT. If you right
click on the clock in the top right corner and choose change date and

I forgot to say that i have also an ati graphic card (Sapphire radeon
9800Pro), and that with previous usplash (-16dennis) version, tty7 (X)

Hi
It seems that the solution that I read here doesnt work for me, I down graded
the xorg version to the version that is supposed to work, now gdm wont start,
and I am completely lost as what am I suposed to do from here.
here is a part of the log file that is outputed after the x restart:

If software updates fails to get all repository indexes it opens a
window called Could not download all repository indexes. This window
appears behind the software updates window and is not visible if other
windows are maximised.
I got that error using the alternative cd, but the iso md5sum and the
one on the web matched and installation went fine anyway.

The problem is still happening in dapper, as far as I can see:

It fixed it for me. I also happened to run update-fonts-alias, update-
fonts-dir and update-fonts-scale and then restarted X.
It *did not* resolve until i restarted X.
However this font path updating should be made automatic (this is only a
temporary work around). Hence not closing the Bug

This morning i upgraded to the 2.6.17-7-386 kernel and rebooted. I got
to the usplash and not test was in the box and the progress bar didnt
move. I waited around 5mins and rebooted took usplash out of the boot
options

This works on other distributions without tweaking BIOS settings. It
used to be a problem on Fedora and Red Hat, but they fixed it ages ago.
