[Bug 217137] [NEW] Hardy Heron: Nautilus fails to open directory with more than 140 subfolders

2008-04-15 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I was browsing my workplace's SMB server (Windows 2003 Small Business
Server) and when trying to open any folder that had more than 140 sub-
folders in it Nautilus would fail with an 'Invalid Argument' error.

Please note, 140 is not a special number. Thats just the smallest
'large' folder I tested that nautilus failed on.

[Bug 205236] Re: Likewise Open 4.0.5 doesn't work out of the box in Hardy.

2008-04-15 Thread Craig Sampson
Therefore the hosts row must have the dns option next to files
option. It has to be like this to let LikeWise work: hosts : files dns
mdns4_minimal [NOTFOUND=return] mdns4 .

I can't this to work either. Are you supposed to just be able to login
via gdm with an AD account or do the local users matching the AD users
still have to be set up?

[Bug 217159] Re: slapd + gnutls fails

2008-04-15 Thread svimes
... but TLS_REQCERT never in the client confs helps, but makes me
wonder:

$ man ldap.conf

TLS_REQCERT level

never The client will not request or check any server certificate.

This probably should not be the case. Previously allow has worked, which
is still a bit dubious.

allow The server certificate is requested. If no certificate is provided,
the session proceeds normally. If a bad certificate is
provided, it will be ignored and the session proceeds normally.

Is there any way to make it work with try for example?

This is not a major thing and thanks for your help, in pointing out the obvious
problem. :)
Shouldn't trust and old config, I guess. :)

For the sake of documentation here are the client confs:

$ cat /etc/ldap/ldap.conf
#
# LDAP Defaults
#

# See ldap.conf(5) for details
# This file should be world readable but not world writable.

URI ldaps://127.0.0.1/
BASE dc=nnn,dc=nnn
TLS_REQCERT never

$ cat /etc/ldap.conf

uri ldaps://127.0.0.1/

idle_timelimit 3600
ssl on
pam_password exop
bind_policy soft
TLS_CACERTFILE /etc/pki/tls/certs/ca.nnn.nnn.crt
TLS_REQCERT never

Any comments on those? I've also dabbled with the nss_initgroups_ignoreusers
parameter, but
don't have any conclusive results on that.

I copied your config into my /etc/ldap/ldap.conf (changing the base
parameter), and using TLS_REQCERT allow worked fine for me. I use never
because my LDAP server is using a self-signed cert, and there used to be
issues without setting that option. The server I'm testing with was
upgraded from Dapper to Hardy.

I was just wondering if you are using libnss-ldap? Could it possibly be a
setting in /etc/ldap.conf?

Marking as 'incomplete' and unmilestoning. We still need the stderr
output of a process that's failing in this way to diagnose whether it's
 a postfix or gnutls bug.

It will not be possible for me to provide this debugging output, as we
have switched to Exim for this particular implementation, and this is
now running production.

[Bug 217992] [NEW] mysql server crash using SELECT

2008-04-15 Thread Jamie Strandboge
Public bug reported:

The following SRU request is to fix customer bug #217772.

1. This bug allows for an authenticated user to crash the mysql server
using simple '@@' select queries on 64-bit architectures. This bug only
affects Ubuntu 6.06 and 6.10. 7.04 and later are not affected.

2. The bug was fixed in upstream release 5.0.25. The bug is
http://bugs.mysql.com/bug.php?id=20908. All versions of mysql in Dapper
are affected (5.0.21-3ubuntu1 and 5.0.22-0ubuntu6.06.9).

3. Attached is the debdiff for the patch. It is based on
http://lists.mysql.com/commits/10782 which had to be lightly adapted for
the test cases only. The patch fixes the source code and also adds test
cases to the mysql-test build test suite.

4. TEST CASE:
To reproduce the bug, do on a Dapper 64 bit machine (eg amd64):
$ sudo apt-get install mysql-server-5.0
$ mysql -u root -p
mysql select @@@VERSION;

5. The regression potential is believed to be negligible. The changes
were minimal, i368 and amd64 runs the test suite without errors and the
updated packages pass QA Regression Testing.

I will upload the packages soon.

[Bug 149556] Re: [gutsy] gnome-rdp can't minimize

2008-04-15 Thread dustinmoore
I had this issue on a laptop running compiz. I found that if I reduced
the RDP screen size by one pixel less than the computers resolution the
issue would go away. So I would setup RDP with 1280 x 799 if my Ubuntu
laptop screen resolution was 1280 x 800. It is a simple fix, if you can
live with one less row of pixels.

[Bug 217592] [NEW] [Hardy] Using Mouse Selection with Ring Switcher causes Compiz crash

2008-04-15 Thread Conrad Knauer
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

Using Hardy current to the repositories as of April 14.

I have Compiz enabled
and used simple-ccsm to set ring switcher as my switcher under the effects tab
and compizconfig-settings-manager to Allow Mouse Selection (under Ring
Switcher - Misc. Options tab)

Up until a few days ago (possibly with the April 11 updates, though I
don't remember exactly) the mouse selection with alt-tab worked fine.

Now using it crashes Compiz (if I then go to Appearance/Vistual Effects
its set to None; setting it back to Custom gets it working again).
Curiously, I am not getting any error messages when this happens.

[Bug 214481] Re: [hardy] ltsp-build-client builds incomplete filesystem

2008-04-15 Thread njrickard
Comfirmed, using
ltsp-build-client --components main universe
also works for me. Many thanks.

I get the same error messages when ltsp-build-client can't find
2.6.24-16-server/modules.dep - this is for the initial installation
before it gets the updated 2.6.24.16 packages. However, it then
completes the installation successfully.

(I previously reported opt/ltsp/i386/lib/modules is empty. It now
contains 2.6.24-16-generic but the ltsp-build is looking for
2.6.24-16-server/modules.dep. I'm running Ubuntu server edition but
want 'normal' graphical Ubuntu for the clients. Might this be something
to do with it?)

I'm on standard Ubuntu (server edition) so not sure about the xubuntu
comment.

fping should be moved there as well. the feature advertised in fping to

[Bug 190968] Re: [hardy] [regression] iwl3945 doesn't associate on kernel 2.6.24-7

2008-04-15 Thread Leann Ogasawara
Hi Derek,

Care to open a new report as it seems you are experiencing a different
bug than the original bug reporter. Vincenzo has commented that this
issue was resolved with the updated iwlwifi available in linux-
backports-modules-2.6.24. It is helpful to the development teams if bug
reports target one specific issue otherwise it is difficult to sift
through comments which do and don't apply to a bug. If would be great
in your new bug report if you could include the debugging information
outlined here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeamBugPolicies . I
apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, but we appreciate your
cooperation. Thanks.

[Bug 188732] Re: Blinking cursor can not be deactivated anymore

2008-04-15 Thread Bjørn Lindeijer
Me too! Cursors SHOULD normally blink in my opinion, it's just that in
the terminal the cursor is a large block which is really annoying when
it blinks all the time. The rather large response in favour of a non-
blinking cursor at the referenced bug makes me a bit mad at the people
who pushed this change through.

So it seems now they're waiting for a patch which only makes things more
complicated... some combo box option with values System default,
Always, Never. I call for a revert since that would bloat the UI
even more than before.

[Bug 89269] Re: power.sh: wrong laptop_mode activation

2008-04-15 Thread Andrea Ratto
Bart Samwel:
FWIW, in Debian I solved this by removing the acpi-support logic for laptop
mode tools completely

That is the quick way to fix it, exactly what I have on my laptop.
Though I think that in the long run would be better to do it the other way
around: remove enabling/disabling based on battery/ac power/lid from
laptop_mode and let it just handle disks.

Since you are the mantainer of laptop_mode what do you think? Would not
it simplify the laptop_mode code and config file a lot (no more need of
enabled/disabled/allowed to run and stuff like that)? Would not it all
be more flexible and coherent (on some laptops one could activate disk
powersaving with a button, for examble)? Would it take much work or is
it just a matter of deleting code here and there?

I am glad you are following this, just like I am the the first issue got
fixed.

[Bug 217600] [NEW] Formatting font

2008-04-15 Thread glauco.s
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

You have this bug report: While using shortcuts to manually apply font
formatting (namely bold, italics, and underline), sometimes Open Office
won't apply the styles. That is, I may press CTRL+B to make text bold,
and the bold button icon won't do anything, and my text doesn't
change.

It's different here. The styles ARE applied, but then they are not
turned off again. (Sorry for my poor English.)

Let's suppose I'm writing and then I use CTRL+U for underline a word
before I write it. The word will be underlined, but the style underline
will keep going on and on, underlining all the text. This happens also
with italics and bold.

(Ubuntu 7.10, Writer 2.3)

Important: the document was originally created in Microsoft Word. The
problem happened also with other documents doc.

[Bug 23369] Re: firefox(-gnome-support) should get proxy from gconf

2008-04-15 Thread Alexander Sack
moblin needs to clean up this patch to make the gconf part an
independent component that we can push to -gnome-support package.
otherwise this would add gconf for all firefox users, which is not
acceptable from a general distro pov.

Unless someone comes up with an improved patch i keep the patch
commented in xulrunner-1.9 and thus it will miss the inital hardy train.
Remilestoning to 8.04.1 accordingly.

[Bug 134313] Re: pdfimages produces inverted image for black white image

2008-04-15 Thread Yves-Antoine
Hello Greg,

Thanks for looking into this issue.

No, everything works now fine with the pdfimages program on uptodate
Hardy.

I had added poppler because the package poppler-utils, is the one
hosting the pdfimages command on a vanilla Ubuntu system, so it is no
longer an issue with poppler as well : I have just tested on a system
with poppler-utils installed.

I confirm the bug is still there on uptodate Hardy with the GIMP.

Regards
Yves-Antoine

[Bug 217602] [NEW] valgrind run against epiphany-browser shows memory losses

2008-04-15 Thread hggdh
Public bug reported:

Hardy up-to-date as of 15 April 09:00 GMT+2.

I ran epiphany-browser under Valgrind.

After startup (blank page) I went to
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evolution/+bugs?field.searchtext=orderby=-date_last_updatedsearch=Searchfield.status%3Alist=Newfield.status%3Alist=Incompletefield.status%3Alist=Confirmedfield.status%3Alist=Triagedfield.status%3Alist=In+Progressfield.status%3Alist=Fix+Committedfield.assignee=field.bug_reporter=field.omit_dupes=onfield.has_patch=field.has_no_package=

Waited for load to finish, and refreshed twice the page (each time
waiting for the refresh to finish), then I ended the run.

Valgrind shows a nice amount of lost memory.

[Bug 216436] Re: [regression] Brightness hotkeys don't work anymore

2008-04-15 Thread Mika Fischer
For me it's

sudo setkeycodes e008 136
sudo setkeycodes e009 137

that silences the kernel. After that lshal -m sees the keypresses as:

09:11:00.004: platform_i8042_i8042_KBD_port_logicaldev_input condition
ButtonPressed = find
09:11:00.316: platform_i8042_i8042_KBD_port_logicaldev_input condition
ButtonPressed = cut

which probably is the real problem together with the fact that the
keycodes are not enabled by default.

OTOH it seems that now almost all special keys have this behaviour,
which means that they can be made to do the right thing in the future.
Previously they just did nothing.

As a workaround I installed the xbacklight package and bound Super-B
and Super-V to xbacklight -inc 10 and xbacklight -dec 10
respectively.

This bug is still highly inconvenient though...

[Bug 216953] Re: Feature request: Gphoto2 plugin in gvfs-0.2.3u1 missing

2008-04-15 Thread Sebastien Bacher
You seem to not understand what I'm writting. It doesn't freeze, it
takes a lock on the device in the sense of exclusive access. It means
that only one application can access to the device, when this one is
gvfs then other photo management software are not able to download
pictures. That's not a bug but a design decision from libgphoto. The way
to resolve that is to have reliable unmount for gvfs and make all the
software using libgphoto to use the unmount call before accessing the
device. Is it clear?

I'm also loading a NTFS partition (my external hard drive) so perhaps it is

[Bug 200868] Re: nvidia-settings doesn't have permissions to write xorg.conf

Confirming since I got this too. This is on Hardy beta, installed from
2008-03-20 live CD.

This really really ought to be fixed before Hardy release.

nvidia-settings isn't using the new Gnome privileges escalation system
(I can't remember what it was called).

You mean AppArmor?

[Bug 200736] Re: Hardy vers. 6-evolution not send/receive mail?

2008-04-15 Thread Marcel Stimberg
Hi, I'm a bit confused. In your initial report the problem was that you
could not use the send/receive button - does that problem still exists?
Not being able to restore from an USB drive seems to be an unrelated
issue. Ideally, please give the steps to reproduce your problem.

[Bug 112984] Re: Odd folder or file names cause amarok to incorrectly log duplicate entires in the collection database

2008-04-15 Thread aftertaf
duh, i meant SQLite, not mysql

just deleted the .kde/share/apps/amarok/collection* files too and am rescanning
to see if it works. (reticking which folders have the files i want...)
I confirm the changing of db engine to force a rescan didn't fix it, the
original file must have remained...

will tell you if this is a lasting fix

[Bug 191475] Re: [hardy] media tab in file management preferences missing applications

2008-04-15 Thread Payteer
Hello,
I agree with Nathan, I believed Ubuntu/linux was all about user control and
not been like MS and taking that control away from us. Gutsy was good in
allowing this tinkering to happen, and I am a bit worried that it is now gone
in Hardy. I have also seen this in other areas also.
Thanks,
Peter

[Bug 208467] Re: Camera Device button Open F-spot Photo Manager doesn't work

2008-04-15 Thread Martin Pitt
I just discussed this with Sebastien. nautilus relies on the gvfs gphoto
backend for camera detection, but that does not work properly yet and we
disabled it. Thus we'll switch back to using g-v-m for photo cameras,
which fits better into the current g-v-m dialog anyway. We'll disable
the photo app selection widget in nautilus.

[Bug 217577] Re: desktop.ini

2008-04-15 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately we can't fix it, because your description
didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read How
to report bugs effectively [WWW]
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at [WWW]
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!
