For me mem=4096M option also workes and I also get only 2,9Gb of RAM
available. Now I'll check for BIOS version, maybe BIOS update can fix
the problem.

Ok, sorry for the delay. I did as you asked, I took one screenshot
using medium compiz settings. and one using extra compiz settings.
Although the medium seemed to have visably less tearing when i moved

I think many newer environments are switching from NIS to
ActiveDirectory (in Windows deployments) or LDAP, for both user account
info as well as things like automount.
I've never used a setup like that so I can't say whether it works better
or not with networkmanager.

The issue seems to be that if you are already playing a file and then let the
mouse cursor rest on a file name the player will play the current file and the
one the pointer is on.
The echo I reported was because I was just clicking the file and letting the
pointer stay on the file. So the
Mackenzie Morgan , downloading karmic... I'll let you know.

I just noticed a string of lines like:
sleep: invalid number '0.1'
in the console before the message about not finding the root device. So
I guess something changed the version of sleep in the initramfs from
klibc to busybox, since:
/usr/lib/klibc/bin/sleep 0.1
works fine, but
