I can also confirm this problem. As can I confirm that /etc/init.d/ssh
restart is a valid (but time consuming and probably proportional in
time to number of processes) workaround. When I noticed this problem
(after about 15 hours of uptime), there were something in the region of

udev runs ifup when it founds eth0, then ifup starts dhclient3 and restarts

As a human, I would expect sftp to be more or less syntax and feature
equivalent to command line ftp. Before I took the time to figure out
scp I would use the ridiculous workaround of tarring an entire folder

I received my laptop with a windows installation on its first hard disk.
I installed Jaunty on the second disk and never booted into Windows on
the first, so I guess it was dual boot of sorts (albeit entirely

I have been running 9.04 for quite a while now (since its release), but
I have also upgraded to 8 gigs of ram and limited the TCP window size
used.
With these changes I have not seen the problem, so I don't know if they
still are there but that these changes made me not hit the problems

Well, does it work for you in Jaunty then? The structure didn't change

Confirmed, however CompizConfig still allows you to configure the number of
workspaces.
When metacity is active, the settings dialog changes to the metacity variant
and both spinboxes are stuck at zero.
