Strange - I have been running that same version of smb.conf (attached)
since 8.04 without issue but it was originally imported from a Solaris
system which had a manually-configured Samba build (3.0 I think).

I concur... this is a problem that should have been fixed by now. When I
run export SSH_AUTH_SOCK=0 on the host machine, I have no problem
connecting to the target system after placing the key in the
authorized_keys2 file (on target).

I'm not sure why you think retrieving domain info from the DHCP server
will do anything to help the problem, which is that the Ubuntu DHCP
client is overwriting the resolv.conf file and replacing nameservers
that were added due to VPN connections.

Just to add my 2 cents... I was seeing this error and got here because
I was having problems booting after I'd intentionally degraded an array
to replace a disk in it. It was this error that got me here.
After reading through this I tried the idea mentioned to disable the

Huawei Mobile EC168c USB Stick doesnt work in 9.10 ( used

This happens repeatedly on my Sony Vaio. After coming back from suspend the
green light turns on but the machine hangs. I have this problem ever since I
upgraded to karmic. I seriously consider falling back to 9.04. It is quite
agitating to have to shutdown the laptop instead of suspend.

menu.lst. I had set it to 4, so that 2.6.31.14 would always load, and it

I also have the same problem on a Toshiba T110/00D. It has the Intel
Mobile 4 Series Chipset and graphics (more specifically Intel GMA
4500M).
The fix somewhat works, but I can't decrease/increase brightness of
panel/cairo-dock, because they still remain bright. There's also the
