I tried to install 16.04 on two different Dell Latitude E5250, I can't
reproduce this issue now, they will all finish the installation in EFI mode and
ask me to reboot. (Although I got some "No bootable devices found." issue in
EFI mode, but at least I didn't see that
I tried setting COGL_ATLAS_DEFAULT_BLIT_MODE to framebuffer and
performance seems to become poorer and I start having glitches when
changing workspaces (in Awesome window manager). Not sure if that's a
satisfactory workaround.
Interestingly there are reports for similar issues dating back to
I am also having this problem while using Thinkpad T460s with a
2560x1440 resolution monitor.

I may have discovered a work-around. I installed the Intel Graphics
Linux Installer **for Ubuntu 15.10** onto 16.04 using the instructions
found here:

Of course you should have a different design for windowed vs phablet
modes. And of course "strength" of a shadow is not bound by its size,
but moreso by its colour, opacity and penumbra
I tested xenial with 8.12+16.04.20160401-0ubuntu1 yesterday. It doesn't
work. As you say in comment #3, smaller surfaces like menus and tooltips
don't work - they take over the whole app window rendering the app
unusable.

go ahead and create an EFI system partition, and then successfully
install in EFI mode.

Yes, there is an existing bug filed on the fact that the dialog itself
often becomes bugged if you do not respond to it fairly quickly. Click
the cancel button within a few seconds, or just boot the cd in bios mode
and you should be fine.

I tried PXE based install (just booting till the installer does network
init) multiple times with Cavium UEFI and did not see this issue, but as
soon as I tried AMI UEFI first time the "NMI softlockup ..." appeared
after sometime while still in opening screen of "debian-installer".
