Re-reading my previous post, I need to clarify.
about 1) and 2):
I tried to USB boot (normal) and it didn't work. I got many GUI hangs/crashes.
After ~5-10 times I got fed up with it and tried a USB (safe) boot, which
worked. Then I tried the USB (normal) boot again and it suddenly worked.
I installed libmutter-10-0 42.1-0ubuntu1 and verified that the Test Case
works successfully now.

I had to revert the patch in Kinetic because it was causing
golang-1.18.2 to fail to compile itself on ppc64el. After some more
investigation and help from upstream, I finally have the couple of
patches needed to be backported in order to fix this bug fully.
