New code splits the self-extracting executable from the pythonlauncher ,
so that the launcher/cleanup code is always run from a temp folder, the
pythonlauncher code simply invokes python.exe with appropriate arguments
and then runs cleanup code to remove the temporary folder and itself.

Colin, my results above are completely independent of Wubi. The test was
done using a standard intrepid installation and mounting ntfs from there
with and without syncio.

Parted was in fact fixed by Soren (#252684) so Wubi installation
completes now. It might be though that open + O_DIRECT is used elsewhere
and I wouldn't be too surprised if the problem will bite us again (half
an issue though since O_DIRECT in a nested ext3 fs is OK). Even so, if
I think that Andrew is referring to a Hardy installation, where export
ROOTFLAGS is required. This was corrected in Intrepid (0.92a), so there
is no need for step 1 and 3 in 8.10. In intrepid, it should be
sufficient to pass any required rootflags argument in menu.lst (step #2)
and run
If you have a valid CD, any download failure should not be critical for
the rest of the installation. There is a log file in your user temp
folder. That will help to identify any issue, please attach it here. In
any case you should be able to run Wubi with the command line argument
--skipmd5check.
