After only a little hassle, I was able to boot the live cd using i915.modeset=1, install, adjust grub on boot to boot, and then add in i915.modeset=1 to grub permanently. It would be nice if it grabbed it automatically from the live cd boot settings, but that's for another bug. acpi=off was not
