The majority of the issues causing said symptom have been fixed in alsa-
kernel hg. Patches were available in early October and have been
backported to both Dapper and Edgy linux-source (see the October '06
Ubuntu kernel-team list archives) but have yet to be merged (note that
some said patches
Please attach /var/log/dmesg and /proc/interrupts. This symptom is not
triggered by http://www.kernel.org/git/?p=linux/kernel/git/bcollins

That's odd. intel8x0 is softvol'd by default, so you _shouldn't_ be
seeing this symptom in a fresh Dapper or Edgy install. Is this symptom
reproducible from booting an Edgy desktop cd?
