Exactly. If in the Panel Properties is not set None. Use system theme
when user change theme, the panel is not refreshed correctly because
persists the background image in Panel Properties and not takes the
system theme.
This can be very frustrating for user because might not know how to
solve it.
For example, you try to change from Human to DarkRoom (or NewVawe or
Dust).
Moreover in others themes the buttons panel aren't consistency with background
panel image.
For a default theme I think this can't be a good way.

Why not to integrate the panel into the Human GTK theme as a bg_pixmap ?
This solution can't have transparency but I think is not a problem...this is a
less invasive solution.
For me a theme must be totally independent of the system.

I tried Piotr's procedure with Alt-Sysrq-R and killing compiz.real but:
1. Alt-Sysrq-r didn't unfreeze the keyboard (on syslog my attempts were
recorded as SysRq : Keyboard mode set to XLATE
)
2. I ssh-ed to my machine during the freeze and neither Xorg nor compiz weren't
consuming a

Hello,
after upgrading a mini-itx machine (VIA CLE266 chipset) from ubuntu 7.10 to
8.04 the machine began to freezing at boot time.
Before freezing, for a instant, the screen becomes green, then the display
shuts down (out of sync error).

When I use a dark theme, the menuitem in the menubar not changes the font color
in accord with gtk theme.
