I had rebooted as I upgraded yesterday and I shut down last night

hey guys,
i'm very new to the linux OS, but joined because i heard Ubuntu was
relatively user-friendly. i thought i was adequate with computers until
i ran into alot of little snags with ubuntu 7.10 on my dell 700m laptop.
i also have the shutdown problem and in my search, found this thread and
the original fix worked for me on my two week old feisty install. The
line was/is:
SUBSYSTEM!=usb*, GOTO=libgphoto2_rules_end
and I changed it to:
SUBSYSTEM!=usb_device*, GOTO=libgphoto2_rules_end

Hello, I can confirm that bug in Gnome-panel, 8.10 Intrepid, I
detected because I like to change the panels I didn't knew all these

I am seeing the exact same thing as kuhnert. However only on one of the drives
connected to my controller. I have been running feisty fine for a little while
and today one drive gives me these errors. If it can help, I attached the
output from dmesg. I am also available to test new kernels.
I just tried the 2.6.20.15.14 kernel and it has fixed my issue. Thanks

I've tested this fix on my Dell latitude E6410.
The freezes after a sleep definitely got better, but still seeing some
random freezes after my pc wakes up.
Before this patch, the freezes were constant but not anymore.
Also the error in dmesg i915_hangcheck_elapsed disappeared.

I've just updated all packages and it is still an issue. I use 3d
unity, and it's not LO specific. It happens also with other apps (like
JDownloader, VLC, Virtualbox etc.) but never with firefox or

This might be helpful: I removed thunderbird from launcher and run it and It is
not assigned to the workspace.
So:
-it happens with apps that are not added to launcher
-switching to other workspace and then switching back repairs the state of the
apps.
It should help tracking the problem.

When going to http://geoip.ubuntu.com/lookup from a city containing non-ASCII
characters it will output malformed XML.
The non-ACSII are convered to �, according to curl, and unicode \u,
according to Firefox. In my
Sam_ and NikTh: I believe that's not an issue, as the file is cleaned up
for you. The issue the rest of us have is that the file is never
removed, but left there. This happens only on shutdown.
