Hmm... I think these are related... I am also seeing display issues on
buttons in FireFox and Evolution as well.
In FireFox this is happening after clicking on a button... The button
Appears to stay simi-highlighted.
In Evolution the Send/Receive button also stays simi highlighted.

That's correct. One thing to note about this issue is that flash never
seems to stop working when this happens. I also seem to get the
notification about the crash when I move from a page that has flash to
one that doesn't. This segfault happened when I moved from one page
with flash to another

After a recent update this problem is no longer happening. There were

PS. I installed all the dependencies from gnome-panel one at a time to see if
maybe you just needed something from one of gnome-panels dependents...
Unfortunately it did actually need gnome-panel and all of it's dependents to

No. The startup procedure for the panel should be listed as a startup
service in the startup menu and not connected in any way to the menu
item in the panel itself. Simply deleting the menu item should not keep
the panel from loading. A menu item should not have that kind of power.
