I am having the same problem. What helped me have back Internet access
was to bring up the interfaces and running dhclient from the command
line:
sudo ifconfig eth0 up
sudo dhclient
Replace eth0 with the interface you want to use.
This will not bring the applet back to life, but at list you will
I think the fact that Evolution clears the password without interacting with
the user is a bug on its own.
All the workarounds are temporary and do not solve the problem.
Evolution seems to have problems dealing with basic connectivity issues:
connection drops, mail server temporary down
The problem is not solved... it renders Evolution useless

picture I attached a few days ago was taken after booting from a live CD
(well, pen drive). If I install nvidia-current the screen goes
completely black, but it can be corrected by adding intel_iommu=off to
