image viewer crashes ubuntu on viewing fullscreen jpg

I face the same problem in ubuntu 12.04.
In the Image Viewer, whenever I click on an image, the system crashes and asks
whether to run in low key graphics. I don't get to choose my response except
clicking on either 'enter' or 'esc' to which the system responds by displaying
a set of commands

I changed the software source and have now done a complete upgrade to 7:10
on both my desktop and laptop
everything is now working great..thanks to ubuntu forum
