Hi,
I can confirm this bug. As was being discussed in bug #297245, changing the
options to NOMODESET does show the boot screen, but the screen turns black
after the splash screen. After sometime the WSoD appears.
I changed the driver from intel to vesa and i was able to atleast
login.

I had a question regarding Jaunty - If i upgrade to Jaunty from intrepid - do i
need to reinstall this patch ? or has it been taken care of in Jaunty?

I can confirm that the package in intrepid-proposed fixes the problem.
But there is just one problem - I dont know if its because of this package.
The refresh rate for my LCD changed to 56 after I used INTEL driver
The refresh rate with VESA driver to get 1280x800 resolution was 60.

Hi,
I saw the bug has been fixed :-)
For n00bs like me who are not used to compiling and using git repository
- Can some one suggest what should I do? Or a simple .deb file? I have
been using VESA for too long now. I need to use INTEL as a driver on my
laptop :-)

I finally managed to get 1280x800 resolution on My Studio (affected
hardware) by using VESA driver. Although it would be nice to use my
Intel X3100 but I can manage with this resolution currently.
In order to get this i did 2 things mainly:
1) Added this modeline -
modeline 1280x...@60 83.46 1280
