I have same issue. nVidia proprietary driver and G105M card
It can't depend to Unity, it is possible reproduce with Mint12
It looks like some problem with 3D accelerator.
It is NOT reproducible in terminator
Easiest way to reproduce:
man use pgup/pgdown
mc pres Ctrl+O few times or open
Option ProbeAllGpus true can be used as workaround. Tested.

It is possible reproduce on 10.04 (lucid)
With supported nvidia driver 256.52 it works fine.
With PPA buntu-x-swat/x-updates driver 270.29-0ubuntu1~lucid~xup2 it fails.
It looks like problem on nvidia drivers, but I am not able to find any similar
bug report on

But after downgrade to Janunty 2.4 backported drivers (yes use Jaunty 2.4

It is significant for Hauppauge HVR-1200, Hauppauge HVR-1700 and may be others
With default chip contend it have problems with lock signal.
