2. Open Terminal
3. run command 'ps -ela'
4. find rsyslogd
5. run command: 'sudo kill ' (PID of rsyslogd)
But rsyslogd starting again in a moment with another PID.
If I run 'sudo rsyslogd -c5 -i
I did now step by step what you did. No result.
But with 24-Jan-2013 Ubuntu AMD 64 Bit image and with 'nomodeset' option
(because since 12.04 live system hangs with noveau drivers and my videocard)
IMHO it doesn't matter.

starts but there is no sound. It takes a few seconds and the sound
