As I read them, bugs 72609 and 114758 are different bugs. 72609 does
not like the fact that k3b ejects the disk between writing and verifying.
114758 is OK with ejecting but has a problem with the subsequent need
for a manual load causing the verify to fail.
It looks like people from each way
I do not believe so. The disc manufacturers ratings are there for a
reason. I assume there is a good reason that K3B was holding you back,
i.e. to save possible data corruption with burn speed vs disc rating. I
have had a look around the KDE bug tracker, and it appears similar
problems have been
This takes place after the disk has burned 100% and k3b ejected it and means
to close the drive to 'refresh' it. But it gets stuck and sits there using
100% cpu. Disabling eject disk after burn fixes the problem because it
doesn't eject the disk and sit using 100% CPU. The progress is at 50%

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better, and sorry for such a really late reply from one of the
Bug Squad. There hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were
wondering if this is still an issue for you. Can you try with the latest
Ubuntu release
I can't speak for others, but I can tell you how things have been
working for me.
First of all, the system I'm using is a quad-core Core 2 running at
3.4GHz, and the drive I'm using is a 22x SATA DVD burner that supports
DMA. All of those things conspire to hide software inefficiencies. The
I just got the exact same problem on Ubuntu 8.10 64-bit trying to burn a data
DVD. It ejected the dvd and was on 100% cpu and the burn status was at 50% (as
seen from window title, as it didn't update the screen anymore).
It's a shame that this is still a bug after 2 years.
There is another bug
I have the same issue on Kubuntu 8.04 32 bit, Dell E521 AMD 64 bit dual
core. It ejects the tray and stops responding (IE close the tray by hand
and it just sits there), but mine does not lock up. I can cancel and get
a verify error. I seem to remember this from 7.04, and that it was
related to
It is the same for multiple copies :-( This is a regression as it was
fine on 7.10

I have similar problem (on ubuntu 8.04 amd64. dual core Plextor CD/DVD).
After recording with [x]verify, it ejects the cd, then do NOT load it,
and uses 100% cpu (one core) and I have to kill it.

k3b error when writing and verifying DVDs using slimline drive
Disabling open drive after disk is completed does not work for me if I
am creating a data DVD. It works for creating DVD from iso image. If I
create a data DVD by selecting files/folders from my HDD and keep the
data verification option turned on, it hangs after the writing is
finished. Manual
This problem still exists in hardy. After the burn and before the
verify, the disk tray opens (unless you use the workaround suggested in
the previous post), and K3b then hangs, using 100% of one CPU core. The
process has to be killed.

Perhaps I should have added to my previous comment: I am using amd64
ubuntu. The drive is a Dell-supplied TS-H653B and is an internal sata
drive (I think).

I think this is the same problem I had. I fixed it by disabling open
drive after disk is completed. Instead of burning the disk and locking
up it continued with verification.

k3b error when writing and
The bug still exists with version 1.0.4-2ubuntu1-gutsy1, at least for
me.
Verify doesn't start because the tray does not retract, and manually
closing it doesn't help.
I too had no problems until Gutsy (7.10) final release. I was running
the 7.10 beta initially, and the problem didn't exist
Interesting. for me k3b does not open the tray at all and goes on to
verify. And even in the previous version with the problem it did start
the verify if I was quick enough in manually closing the tray.

k3b error when writing and verifying DVDs using slimline drive
My experience matches pepster's. After burning the DVD, instead of popping
open the drawer on my laptop, then complaining that it couldn't read the
disk, it now keeps the drive closed from insertion of blank medium until
verification is complete.

k3b 1.0.4-2ubuntu1~gutsy1 seems to have fixed the issue.

I have this exact same problem with k3b in gutsy. It also occurred in
feisty on this same dell laptop E1505 with writer TSSTcorp DVD+-RW TS-

but not insert itself, so when k3b finishes burning, it ejects the cd,
