Well, it actually is a bug.
The bug is that if you doubleclick the file, file-roller will then offer
to install p7zip only -- which then will fail to open the archive. If
someone can change it to offer p7zip-full instead then this can finally
be closed.

I have the same problem on Ubuntu 10.10.
Maybe the latest p7zip version 9.20.1 could do it better, but it is not

This is NOT a bug...
To open password protected .7z files , you need to install *p7zip-full package*
...
Then double clicking the file ,opens the file via file roller with a dialogue
to enter the password.

use 7z or 7za it works fine. It does not work for 7zr.

I think p7zip is supposed to be simplified (like gzip but simplet) ie it
jsut compesses and decompresses single files, whereas 7z can do more.

This happens also, wenn i use the current version 7-Zip 4.48 beta under
Windows. Extracting unprotected .7z archives works like a charm...
