Sadly, gtk-qt-engine is a quite broken piece of software and has been removed
from distribution. (See bug 404930)
Unfortunately this means that the large number of bugs will not be seeing
fixes. :(
For now, the best integration option for KDE is the QtCurve style, (gtk2
-engines-qtcurve) which

I am running with the kde4-oxygen GNOME theme and noticed that I have
100% cpu usage under KDE4. Running in openbox does not have this
problem.
Using the Qt4 engine also causes the hang described by the others.

Same problem: gvim hangs on at start.
The -X tip works fine.
If I stop the gvim instance with ctrl-C I get:

gvim also starts normally when started with sudo.
$ sudo gvim
I've created a temporary fix with the following command:
echo alias gvim=\'gvim -X\' .bashrc
This adds a line to the .bashrc which tells bash to start gvim -X when the
command gvim is given.

I too can confirm this bug.
The way I have been dealing this is by adding the -X augment to gvim
when I start it; this tells gvim not to try to connect to the X-server .
That way the oxygen theme is used.

I confirm that I have this bug.
I tried changing the content of ~/.gtkrc-2.0-kde4 but it didn't fix the
problem for me (maybe it needs a restart of xorg ..)

Well, that fix doesn't work for me, probably because the version of gtk-
qt-engine in question doesn't include /usr/share/themes/Qt any more;
only /usr/share/themes/Qt4. In the previous version (that did include
the Qt theme) it worked fine, but Qt4 still exhibited this same freezing
behavior

I confirm the exact same behavior with gvim and gtk-qt-engine. Furthermore:
$ echo $GTK2_RC_FILES
~/.gtkrc-2.0-kde4
$ cat ~/.gtkrc-2.0-kde4

include /usr/share/themes/Qt4/gtk-2.0/gtkrc
[...]
gtk-theme-name=Qt4
