I'm having this same problem, but very strange results. On my PC, with
an nVidia card, I have no problems. I can run a VirtualBox VM, then open
a video file with SMplayer, no transparent video output. Xv works just
fine too. Compiz-Fusion is running (I use the Xfce environment). My PC

Possibly you have an unrelated issue yostral? You should file a new bug

I've posted a new version of the -nvidia driver to our xorg-edgers PPA,
would you mind testing it either on Jaunty or Karmic and see if it
resolves this bug?

I had the same problem with VirtualBox 2.2.2 and 9.04, but after I
restarted my computer, it went away. I have an ATI Mobility Radeon 9200
so I don't think this is a nvidida-graphics-drivers issue.

(Following my earlier post, I have now installed the *official* Ubuntu 9.04
*jaunty* version of VirtualBox 2.2.2 via Synaptic, and the transparent window
problem still exists.)
As johnboiles noted, the problem seems to go away after a reboot.
However, on my system it comes back if the guest is
... I should also have added that, like johnboiles, my laptop display
also is not Nvidia... it's an ATI Radeon Mobility X1400. Can this bug
be reclassified?

I too have this problem with VirtualBox 2.2 on Jaunty. My graphics card
is an ATI Radeon xpress 200 (motherboard), using the -ati driver. This
didn't happen with the fglrx driver, but I wouldn't like to go back to
it for obvious reasons...

I have the same problem on jaunty, official 23 April release.
VirtualBox 2.2.0, installed via Synaptic. This is the intrepid version
as a jaunty one is not yet available as a Synaptic install. Guest OS is
Windows XP.
Had to tun off desktop Compiz video effects for now, but would like a

I've been trying numerous video-files of various formats on a couple of
other media players to see if any other player was affected when using
composition.
VLC Media Player runs just fine, the video is displayed nicely with the
black borders as well However, the video is slightly pixelated. And
