soundcheck,
The original bug report was not about a hang at the message Starting
init crypto disk, but a hang after the /next/ line, md1_crypt
(running). Which of these describes the problem you're seeing?
** Summary changed:
- [Karmic beta] System hangs at boot while Starting init crypto disk
I still have the problem with Karmic Final.
The system just hangs randomly up during boot at the message Starting init
crypto disks. It usually needs several tries to get it working. ( I am running
one data disk via eSata - and a SSD as internal boot disk)

Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and help to improve
Ubuntu.
The boot scripts underwent a process of rapid development around the
time that you first reported this bug. Do you know if the problem still
exists with the final release of Ubuntu 9.10?
** Changed in: cryptsetup
I got a workaround for my Installation Problem:
I reorderd the two hardisks::
749GB (raid 0)
220mb (raid 1)
So the root Partion which is Placed in the crypted LVM at Raid 0 is now
md0_crypt. Now it boots.
It seems the crypted LVM Device must be the first Raid device (maybe).

5 more minutes it asks again (given that no splash screen is shown.
After this it
This is not the bug I reported. My System didn' boot.

Hi Paul Larson,
I think this is not a duplicate of 448981, because in that bug is described
that the /var/log/syslog countains error messages.
In my case the var/log/ files are all empty.

Ok, thanks for the feedback. I saw some similarities there so it was
worth checking. You may want to try the latest daily image if this is a
possibility for you.

I suspect this may be a dup of 448981. Please check and see if
/var/run/dbus is there/populated. Thanks!

I have a similar problem. On a Lenovo laptop, I upgraded from 9.4 to
9.10. I was fine between kernels 2.6.24-19 though 2.6.28-15. The last
kernel, 2.6.31-10 has prevented me from booting in either recovery or
normal mode. Boot stops progressing after displaying crypto disks.
