Thanks; re-testing xorg-edgers is helpful but this is almost certainly a kernel bug. xorg-edgers doesn't carry kernel updates, so I wouldn't expect it'd solve this. Instead, download and boot a new daily cd, then run 'apport-collect 681054' to update the logs. This is kind of a borderline

It seems that you've got two monitors plugged in - does this problem occur on both monitors simultaneously, both monitors independently, or just one monitor? Does this still happen if you unplug one of the monitors? (I'd start with the VGA monitor, as I think it's more likely to have problems)
