Same problem, but installing Samba didn't change anything. Editing
/etc/dhcp3/dhclient.conf didn't make any difference either (in my case
the default line of send host-name hostname; was present, if I
changed it to send the actual host name that didn't make any
difference).

So, just to summarize, we are stuck to ubuntu 7.10?
I would like to upgrade to 8.04 for many reasons, but to risk to find
myself with the same problem as before is unacceptable.
Do you guys think situation will improve by the time of 8.10 ?
Do you also find the following procedure suitable:

sorry but it's not working.
when I run a job copying one file it works. Then i modified the file and rerun
the job. The second, third time it crash again.
if I if you need some file or log I'll happy to add it, but I cannot
install -dbgsym for add a backtrace.

Check /etc/nsswitch.conf - look for the line starting hosts:
If it doesn't include the value wins, add it. The line on my machine is
hosts: files mdns4_minimal [NOTFOUND=return] dns mdns4 wins
Then restart networking or reboot.

When access to windows 2003 server with smb://win2003server I can't see shares,
but if I try to acces my ubuntu it shows shares example, smb://localhost.
Instead if I try to access some share with smb://win2003server/share it shows
folders inside share correctly and I can access without errors.
Sorry, it's true is related to that bug.
