Clint, where do you see a *circular* dependency? The dependencies that
you show are not circular.
Also the ordering of package installation is decided by apt and not
dpkg, so this is an apt bug if any.

This is confirmed with a fresh install of Ubuntu 12.04 and vanilla samba
shares. I agree with submitter, this is by no means a Low priority
issue. I have implemented the override and will report results after the
next reboot. This drove me around the bend trying to troubleshoot.

Same problem here. After upgrading server to 12.04 (from 11.10) I cant
print using samba from Windows desktops or Ubuntu desktop. From desktop
ubuntu it keeps asking me for password when I want to print, but it wont
accept any.

I explicitly made the changes in smtpd.conf as suggested in comment #34
and I still see the problem, I am back on 2.1.23. I have not upgraded
to Precise because this is still a problem.

I'd just like to note here before leaving this issue that the submitter
originally said that he was running bind. If bind was set up to listen
on 127.0.0.1#53 but was not correctly set up to provide name service
then I imagine that this could have interfered with the NM-controlled
dnsmasq.
In the absence of interest on the submitter's part in pursuing the
matter, and since there seems to be no problem in either resolvconf or
dnsmasq, marking Invalid.
