Does the error only appear during the upgrade ? Does squid fail to start
afterwards ? Are you still blocked ?

I had same problem. Here is all that was in my syslog for squid after
the failed attempt to upgrade:
Oct 15 16:08:38 desktop squid[30985]: Squid Parent: child process 30989 started
Anything in the system logs showing why squid fails to restart ?
