After changing the user of /mediavault to pwa as you suggested, the
unprivileged mount works. But since users is in the fstab line, that
shouldn't matter.

This is a know bug: bug 106146.
As far as your point 1 (_netdev device not mounted at boot with wicd and
dhcp) I'd suggest to open a new bug as this is unrelated to samba.
