Ok, did remove (purge) the package, rebooted the machine. and then I suspended
it.
Same effect: fan is still out of control.
Powering off the machine again...

Yes, I had fancontrol installed. See below:

It looks like you have not configured fancontrol so it isn't actually
working. Can you try removing the package and see if the behavior
remains the same?

sudo /etc/init.d/fancontrol stop
sudo fancontrol
Then try to suspend, resume and see if there are any errors?
