The workaround didn't worked for me. It fixes the problem only a few

@ogerlich - thanks for providing that info, but we would like to see it from
the original reporter. We may want to send this bug report upstream, but
upstream has a hard and fast rule that logs from someone other than the
original reporter are not acceptable. The reason for that is that
I have Xv running fine here. But only in a single monitor configuration.
As soon as I add a second monitor Xv stops working. It works again when

that have already been fixed in newer versions. Only random freezing
during general use is important. Do you see that with my current Jaunty

Madde, Matteo: I've had both the login problem, and the later Enter or
2 problem. The difficulty is the keyboard scancodes, so different
keyboards can have different triggers if the keyboards have different
scancode assignments.
Whenever it happens later, it seems that my crashed X session had

- My Xorg.0.log.old file says that X session --which crashed-- was running on
VT7.
- The current Xorg.0.log file says the present, stable X session is running on
VT8.

This is not a problem with the NVidia graphics driver. If you look at
the backtrace I provided, you can see that the assertion failure occurs
within Xorg's security extension (Xext/security.c). Specifically, you
can see the assertion failure message in the backtrace: X:

Before hand I've had to remove the Checkbox functions as it would hang in the
display section on extreme magnified resolution and the system would have to be
rebooted to free from the lock. Removed pulse and all pulse related files due
to loop file

Somewhat works if I disable modeset (nomodeset) and use vesa, but it's
at the limit of usability, if I try to switch between text mode console
and X the graphic screen freezes up and only the text console works (if
I switch back). Also because I'm using VESA the screen resolutions are
much much
I encountered this with a 256MB nvidia 6600GT AGP card when the 'AGP
Aperture size' in the BIOS was set to a value lower than the amount of
memory on the video card. After upping the value in the BIOS, the
problem went away.

Just tried a new scenario:
- Boot up in text mode without AC power
- Login in text mode
- Connect AC power
- start gdm
Result: no crash. I'd guess that means that no other program that might
be run automatically by Ubuntu when the AC power is disconnected can be
responsible for the crash.
